"Breaking Dawn" Grabs Thanksgiving Box Office Lead

Heading into the Thanksgiving holiday, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" continued to lock up first place at the box office to begin the long weekend of November 23-27, 2011.

The Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner starring vampire picture took in $12.5 million on Wednesday with a forecast of $58 million over the five-day weekend run.

Settling for the runner-up slot was a cinema newcomer, as the family friendly picture "The Muppets" brought in $7.3 million on opening day with an anticipated Thanksgiving weekend grand total projected at $50 million.

With quite the spread being found between second and third, the animated movie "Happy Feet Two" slipped a spot from last week's runner-up status with $3 million in earnings on Wednesday with a holiday weekend outlook set at $23 million.

Rounding out the top ten in projected five-day earnings at the box office are "Arthur Christmas" ($22 million), "Immortals" ($15 million), "Jack & Jill" ($15 million), "Puss In Boots" ($15 million), "Hugo" ($11 million), "Tower Heist" ($10 million) and "The Descendants" ($8 million).
